KAREN JONES TALKS ABOUT HARK AND HAROLD & THE CHRISTMAS STAR:
Q: WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO WRITE THIS PLAY?
A: I have always been fascinated with the roles the angels perform in carrying out God's plan. I believe that they affect our lives more than we will ever be aware of, both in the past and in the present. Saying that, I tried to imagine what was going on in heaven as they made preparations for the birth of the Christ Child. And of course, there had to be some complications. So I picked two mischievous "angels-in-training" to throw a little chaos into the mix as they try to contribute in their own special way.
Q: WHAT'S YOUR FAVORITE PART OR LINE IN THE PLAY? WHY?
A: I think my favorite line is when Hark and Harold state that they were trying to "signal the earth" to tell them that "help was on the way." In their own innocent way, they simplify the plan of salvation: Mankind was in desperate need of help and God Himself was coming to their aid.
Q: TELL US MORE ABOUT THE CHARACTERS.
A: The adult angels (like all adults) were all stressed out about getting everything perfect for the momentous event. They were so concerned about the logistics they were missing the joy. However, the younger angels were full of joy and excitement and just wanted to help anyway they could. In the end their unorthodox methods helped solve the problem on how to show the "whole" earth something great was happening in a small town in Israel.
Q: WHAT DID YOU TRY TO ACHIEVE WITH THIS PLAY?
A: I just wanted to show a new perspective on the Nativity story, one from the angel's point of view. They knew first hand about Satan and his destructive influences on earth and now they are assisting with God's plan to intervene.
Q: DO YOU HAVE ANYTHING ELSE YOU'D LIKE TO ADD?
A: Just to enjoy it and maybe think about the angels that they themselves may have entertained unawares. Heb. 13:2
